I met the Lord today.
Not like before, 17 years ago (17??? Holy cow...) at Saranac Lake, at a Young Life Camp during the 20 minutes...
Not like that.
Today I met Him face to face. We were In Sam's club, heading for the wings..He was in a wheelchair, sitting with a dazed look on His face...when I started on by, He looked up and asked me if I could help Him find the "Jolt."
Well, I couldn't find it, and He couldn't find it, and before I knew it, I knew a good size chunk of His life story.
See, He told me His name was Edward, and He was a dead man. That's what they told Him about 40 or so years ago, when He got back from Nam, banged up and with Multiple Sclerosis to boot. They said He wouldn't make it through the year. Told Him that He should get His affairs in order. Forget about starting a family; no wife, no kids...
He says that He didn't listen too well...about 40 years ago....
Now He's got a wife, kids, grandkids, and He's still out on His own, shopping.....living.
So, why do I think that this was The Lord?
Well, His voice sure didn't show it. Not a huge boomer, like Moses might have heard...not a soft whisper like Elijah listened to...
His voice was actually kind of hard to understand at times....the MS, you see...
I guess I knew it was Jesus by feel, rather than sight. I just knew as I stood by His side and listened to Him, that it was important to be there...that this time was precious, and all the words counted.
As we left the store, He was trying to load His purchases into the trunk of His old car...I stopped to give Him a hand, and before I could leave, He blessed me.
I God blessed Him back, and then, this poor crippled dude with the MS in the wheelchair said "He already has..."
The last thing I saw of Him was the fish on the back of His car...
Jesus, for sure.
SO Y'ALL ....BE NICE TO STRANGERS...
You never know who they might turn out to be!
YOU GET THE POINT!

Thank you dad for being such a servant for the Lord. You have always had a wonderful heart in this way. I know the Lord is pleased!
Wow. That certainly puts our measly problems into perspective, doesn't it? How cool that you didn't ignore an opportunity to help, and were so blessed by it.
That was really well-written dad, and I can totally picture you doing this quietly and patiently. Very nice reminder that we aren't here to be rich or pretty or to have fun, but rather to serve the Lord by getting close to and personal with those who might need us.
Pop,
Thanks for sharing about your opportunity to serve and love. I know that we all have these kinds of chances to love, bless and be blessed if we only look carefully and listen closely. It's good to be reminded that we can make a difference. Keep on looking and listening for those chances!! Thanks for being a good example for all of us kids.
I'm proud to call you my Dad.
Actually it would be cool to be rich and pretty and have fun serving the Lord!
And every one of you are doing it in your own way.
