TAKES THE BAIT!!!
So....chickens r us....or, to be precise, youse.
When given an opportunity to have a spirited discussion of our presidential candidates, I got either "no comment", or no comment.
What is the matter with you younger generation? Have you no c-c-courage???
We can discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the different candidates as we approach the final battlefield....
Like, did crazy Mccain really have a huge affair a few years ago, and lie about it, like...
Billary's man Will? And, did the Whitewater affair also add a certain "Je ne sais que" to the trustworthiness of the Dynamic Duo for prez??
Will the country actually swallow it's dynamic racism to elect a half black man...do we even know anything about what he stands for besides his claim of some amorphous "Change" that is to occur? Has any politician ever used that promise before?? Have they ever delivered??
So, what choices do we, as middle class Americans have? Taking our basically right wing Christian tendencies, all these folks have lots more to dislike than like. They all, even crazy Mccain, lean towards liberalism. Although, really, Bush, who has claimed to be deeply Christian himself, has made little progress to stop abortion, or any other hot button Christian issues.
Maybe it won't really make too much difference who we choose. 5$ gas, crippling energy costs leading to huge raises in our general cost of living will be foremost on our minds in the foreseeable fuure.
Now, if we had a candidate that could and would do something to curb the appetites of the oil investors, the speculators who are pushing up our energy costs, directly raising the prices on everything else.....
Now, heorshe I could vote for...
YOU GET THE POINT!!!

Sorry for the no comment. I just have very little idea of who to go for now. I don't fully like any of them, but I really don't like two of them, so does that mean number three wins by default? We will most likely vote Mcain, but not happily. Just really don't want either of the other two to get in. It is dismal, yet I have to remember God is in control of this as well. Don't know what the outcome will be, but we will have to endure! Not exciting... Anyway, the guy we wanted (not Huckabee) is out already too.
Well...thanks for the comment!

I heard that Obama is a pretty serious Muslim, and that taking over from the inside is something the Muslims have aspired to for many years. Believe it or not, I think I like Hilary the most out of all the choices. I don't trust McCain, and Bush hasn't done our country a lot of favors economically the last few years. He's way, WAY too pro-business and it's hurt us a lot. But we'll see what happens. It's an interesting year.
Steph, you may be right about Billary. When clinton was prez, things were better than they are now. He will have a lot to offer his woman
when the job's hers.

Ok, I'd like to start by saying that I didn't see yesterday's blog, so I definitely was NOT chickening out. You should know better than anyone how I relish the chance to expound my opinion on politics.
That being said, I will now begin the exposition by saying...WHAAAATTT!?!?!?!?! Are you seriously saying that Hillary and Bill would be the right choice for president? Has that Florida heat fried your braincells?? The ONLY reason things were "better" during the time of Clinton was due to the economic structures set up during the Bush presidency before him. That's how economic cycles work. You create an economic structure and you don't reap the benefits for five to ten years after. Which would also mean that our current economic woes are partially due to, hmmm, Clinton economics! Also, we are struggling with the aftereffects of September 11th. That is just a fact. The war in Afghanistan IS a necessary step that we had to take after that attack, even if you don't think that Iraq was, and the high gas prices and economic downturn came into effect after those attacks as well. And those attacks were ABSOLUTELY due to the negligence of the previous administration, which was, um, let me think, oh RIGHT! CLINTON!!!!!
Now, would anybody please name for me one SINGLE thing that Clinton has successfully done during her political career which would constitute her deserving of the presidency? Anyone? I mean, other than controlling a huge political machine created for her husband which was passed on to her like some sort of trophy for sticking by his side like the good little wifey poo.
That being said, I still hold out faith that somehow, by God's will alone, Huckabee will be president. He is the only one worth voting for. I'm thinking of writing his name in.
Well, I don't really follow politics closely these days and don't want to argue just for the sake of arguing, dear sister, but I would point out that Hillary is probably quite a bit brighter commonsense-wise than Bill ever was or will be, and if I had to put my money on it, I'd argue Bill never would have gotten to where he ended up if not for her. And let's remember, the man fell out of favor IN SPITE of all she'd done to orchestrate their rise to power and she STILL saved his presidency from total chaos by her stand-by-my-man-act during the stupid Monica days - her loyalty to him was probably the only thing that saved him from being stoned by the average midwestern family-type folks out there. You suddenly started hearing about forgiveness and moving on and all that and she became the focal point instead of him - i.e. it was BRILLIANT on her part and a perfect precursor to her future political career. She wasn't about to cash in her chips just b/c her man was too dopey to keep his pants zipped tight whilst at least on the grounds of the White House - in spite of what must have been the most shameful revelation which ever hit the two of them as a couple, she pulled out of it looking graceful and like a total victim who overcame adverse circumstances, and went on to become one of the most powerful and well-respected Senators in the Congress - NOT A SMALL FEAT! Let's remember that she had almost no tie to NY and still managed to drum up enough support by her own sheer will to win the most prestigious post available w/i that state. She's one tough, bright cookie, and though I think morally she's in the dog house, so is Obama, and so, very likely from what I'm hearing, is McCain, so I can't go on that ground alone in trying to condemn her or cut her out of this race. I like her more and more, radical and crazy as she can be sometimes. I'd rather have her stamina and intelligence on my side in a fight than all the popularist appeal of Obama or the staunch conservative moral appeal (which he doesn't have since his affair) of McCain.
And one last thing: The thing about the financial stage set by the prior president is a myth. Bush's extremely pro-business and in particular pro-oil industry policies are responsible for where we are now market-wise and gas price-wise, and that's all there is to it. You'll see the changes which occur almost immediately after a dem is elected and see what I mean by that. It's true. You make a heck of a difference very quickly by coming down hard on corp. greed and disallowing bills which make it easy to keep prices artificially high, which is what will happen very soon after Obama or Hilary gets in.
Ugh. Just let me swallow the bile that has risen into my mouth...There, now I can respond. Ok, the first thing you will see when a democrat is elected will be a quick step back from their promises to pull the troops out of Iraq, a claim that they finally have come up with "the best plan" for that war, and an eventual claim that all of the good that comes out of that conflict was their doing, despite the fact that the surge is what has finally turned the tide in our favor. Then you will see a series of tax increases, ostensibly to support this and that "major reform", such as universal health care, which will be a train wreck because, let's face it, government basically screws up every program they get control over. The economic crisis will continue, along with the high gas prices, because it is in fact OPEC that controls the price of oil (you remember, all those friendly Arabs over there happily screwing us over by hitting us where it hurts most..in our pocket books), but the democrats will claim that it is not at all their fault because it will "take time" to "fix what the Bush administration did" etc. etc.
Then, the unhappy people of America will elect a bunch of Republicans to Congress two years in, once again swinging control over to their side in at least one of the houses, and the democrats will seize upon this scapegoat to blame all of the complete lack of progress in all of their promised areas on the "unfriendly" congress. Four years from now, we will find that every single promise the democrats made has either failed miserably or simply not happened at all, all of which will still be blamed on Bush and on the Repubs, and the general public will sigh heavily and not vote, leaving the faithful conservatives to once again turn out in force and elect a conservative republican to the office, booting Hillary out with a thank-you-very-much-for-finally-
putting-a-woman-into-office-but-now- it's-time-to-put-someone-who-actually-
has-a-moral-compass-in-good-bye.
As for Hillary...(more to come)...
..It really isn't saying much to claim that she is smarter common sense-wise than Bill. The man's lack of common sense is rivaled only by his lack of morality. And you cannot honestly be claiming that the woman deserves to be our next president because of her ability to turn personal tragedy into popularity gold. If that is the case, we're clearly missing the goldmine of qualified politicians there is on reality TV shows.
She was elected in NY because NYC is a liberal cesspool that sees her complete lack of moral convictions as a boon. I mean, look at our most beloved ex-governor. Basically, if you believe in anything wholesome and family-oriented, NY hates you. NYC doesn't care if you belong here. Anyone whose name is easily recognized, for good or for bad, is their kind of person. Someone who adores homosexuals, abortions, and everything else liberal and unchristian you can think of AND has an easily recognizable name, why, they could be king of NY! Now, had she been elected congresswoman of, say, North Carolina without having lived there first, now that would be impressive. NY? Not so much.
and as far as being well-respected and powerful in congress? Her power comes from the political ties her husband forged for her and the power that NY wields. And how has she used this power? What has she achieved? What major moves has she made? Anyone? Anyone?
Seriously, I'm terrified enough of Barama to hope that, if a democrat wins, it's her instead of him. But I would much rather McCain. I cannot, in good Christian conscience, vote for someone who believes that it is a right to murder your unborn child. Anyone who opposes abortion is better able to make right decisions for this country than someone who is so mentally and morally muddled to not get why abortion is soooo totally wrong and evil.
Now that's what I'm talkin' about!!
That's a discussion. Now, kiss and make up...

It's hard to trust any of these folks, isn't it. They all have baggage. Mccain just recently flip flopped his abortion stance. See:
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/11/19/mccain-abortion/
Obama, (real first name is Muhammed), just recently dumped Louis Farrakhan. Hillary is indeed an "opportunist". Which is really an anagram of "politician".
Our choices are slim. Looks like we'll all pretty much cancel each other out this November!

Your stance is very typically hard-core Republican, Jess, and I took the same exact one back when I voted for Bush Jr. I have been repaid for my narrowmindedness a thousandfold. I think making it a one-issue choice (abortion, I guess, in your case) means that a very unworthy, unsavvy, pro-business, anti-little guy person could get in again and continue to push tiny measures to appease the conservatives (which hasn't worked - they ain't happy) whilst happily shoveling billions of dollars to their businessmen friends. But I like your set of predictions. I would never have predicted Bush would have turned out to be as pro-corp. greed as he is - I imagine you'll get a few surprises from whichever turnout we end up with as well. Love you, Steph P.S.: Dad, did you send Jess and Beck photos of my giant belly yet? I'd be interested to hear what they think of my 7-month progress. I gained 10 pounds in one month.
They shoulda got 'em by now, Steph..

Well, you can't get any more "anti-little guy" than to be pro-abortion. Those are the littlest of little guys. McCain did change his mind on abortion long ago, before he became a presidential candidate, actually, but, you know, I've known lots of people to change their minds once they really start to face the issue for what it is. Anyway, I can't say I'm a hard-core McCain supporter. I don't like him very much. I do think he'd be better than a democrat. I am seriously going to find a way to vote for Huckabee. I think he'll be the conservative candidate. Or at least, I hope so.
As far as being a one issue voter, really, most people are. Either your god is money, and you're worried about the economy, or your god is God, and you're worried about morality issues like abortion. There are, I suppose, some others whose god appears to be mother nature, and they vote for whoever has a darker shade of green around their collar. What's your reason for voting?
And I am not, by the way, a republican. I belong to the Right to Life party. Seriously.
Oh, and I did get the pictures. OMIGOSH!!!! You're actually pregnant!! What a CUTE baby bump you have!! If she's this cute when she's still in there, I can't wait to see what sweet little Olivia looks like in person!
I don't think it's as easy as either anti-abortion or no good for families. It's better, in my opinion, for the average family to have access to money for food, clothes and the basics you need to put your kids through school (like private school for Christians, e.g.) than to get in a president who is anti-abortion but so pro-business that we pay through the nose for oil and gas and other essentials and lose out on the stuff we need to bring our families up healthily - and maybe lose out therefore on the oppty to even have more kids, if we're afraid we can't live on what we make. Yes, walking in faith is good, but we're also called to be good stewards of what we have and to consider the cost of the tower before we start to build it... you get what I mean? As I said before, I don't care to argue about politics too much at this stage of my life, but I have to note that your approach is pretty demeaning and rude to anyone who ISN'T a member of the right to life party. No, I don't like abortion, but I also hate Bush's stances on a lot of other important issues which deeply affect me and other average families in this country, and his anti-abortion stance isn't all I'm going to care about in evaluating his presidency.
Strangely, you seem to think this is a discussion on Bush's presidency. I am not extolling the virtues of Bush or his cronies. Rather, I am discussing the criteria I use to help me choose the next president. Whether said person then lives up to the character they put forth on the campaign trail or not is a gamble we take with whatever person we choose. There is no guarantee that they will turn out to be that who they claim to be. However, since we must make a choice, we need to think about the reasons for the choices we make. For me, it is like the pre-civil war days when you chose a president based on whether they were pro- or anti- slavery. I cannot in good conscience choose to support someone who believes it's A-OK to kill babies. I simply cannot.
I totally understand where you're coming from, Jess. I will always be pro-life too. I just also worry that the pro-life candidate I am voting for will turn out to be overly pro-business, which is common in staunch Republican candidates, and that's where families end up suffering. By the way, thanks for the nice comment about Livvy. :) I'll pass it on. I hope she turns out as cute as Julia or Reilly. Love you! Steph
Livvy! Awwwww
